Final road resurfacing works for Flood Protection Scheme
The Caol and Lochyside Flood Protection Scheme in Lochaber is nearing completion. One of the last jobs required to be carried out is the full resurfacing of Kilmallie Road.
The affected section is from the Farmfoods access junction round to the junction of Broom Drive (accessing Mosspark). The Highland Council is advising residents and all road users that temporary traffic restrictions will be in place during the works. This will include a sequence of lane closures, traffic light-controlled sections with convoy vehicles to protect the workforce and a restriction of access to vehicles exceeding 3.5T in weight.
The restrictions will mean that buses, lorries including HGV’s and other vehicles affected by this weight restriction, such as delivery vehicles and bin lorries will be prevented from using this section of road from Monday 14 August for one week.
Alternative bus routes will be in operation during this period and access for pedestrians, cyclists and mobility impaired traffic, as well as any emergency services traffic, will be managed.
Surfacing preparatory works will start on Monday 7 August and road restrictions on the ground will be similar to what is currently in place.
After the resurfacing works, during the week of 21 August all road marking works will be completed. The scheme will then be finished and all roads and footpaths will be open without any restrictions.
The Council apologises for any inconvenience while the final works for this major project, funded by the Council and Scottish Government, are completed.
