Maid of Glencoul resumes service

The Corran Ferry service resumed this afternoon, following a repair to a steering fault which occurred on Friday evening (Friday 11 August).

The steering fault on the Maid of Glencoul unfortunately resulted in the suspension of the Corran Ferry service over the weekend.

The crew worked over the weekend with a specialist engineer to identify the defect with the steering system. Repairs to rectify the fault and the necessary sea trials concluded this afternoon and the Maid of Glencoul resumed service at 15:00 hrs, Monday 14 August.

A temporary passenger service from Ardgour to Fort William was set up over the weekend to mitigate the loss of the ferry service.

Alternative road routes around the Loch have recently been improved with additional signage and expanded passing places.

The free shuttle bus service to and from Camusnagaul and the enhanced timetable of the Camusnagaul to Fort William passenger ferry will continue.

Economy and Infrastructure Committee Chair, Cllr Ken Gowans said: “We would like to thank the public for their patience as the crew and specialist contractor worked to repair the steering fault on the Maid of Glencoul. The fault was treated as a matter of urgency and the mitigation plan implemented in a timely manner to allow a foot passenger service to operate during the suspension of the Maid of Glencoul service.”
