£810,000 resurfacing scheme on A96 near Nairn begins Sunday 20 August
Issued by Amey
The A96 carriageway near Nairn is set to benefit from a £810,000 project that will deliver improvements to the road surface.
Amey is undertaking resurfacing to nearly 1300 metres of the A96 carriageway near Delnies Wood from Sunday 20 August to Saturday 9 September.
Work will take place between 140 metres west of the Whiteness Junction and 200 metres west of Nairn campsite.
To ensure the safety of roadworkers and motorists the essential maintenance will be carried out using a series of overnight convoys and road closures, including a full weekend road closure. Preparatory works have already been carried out earlier in August 2023.
Work will take place as follows:
- Sunday 20 August to Thursday 24 August: Overnight convoy working between 7.30pm and 6.30am each night. There will also be daytime Temporary Traffic Lights in place on Wednesday 23, Thursday 24 and Friday 25 August.
- Friday 25 August at 7.30pm to Monday 28 August at 6.30am: Full weekend closure.
- Monday 28 August and Tuesday 29 August from 7.30pm to 6.30am: Two overnight closures.
- Wednesday 30 August to Friday 8 September: Overnight convoy working between 7.30pm and 6.30am each night. Traffic management will be removed by 6.30am on Saturday 9 September.
During the closures a signed diversion will be in operation. Southbound traffic should take the A939 at Nairn before turning right onto the B9101 westbound. Traffic can then continue on the B9090 through Cawdor and Clephanton to re-join the A96 at Brackley. Northbound traffic can take the route in reverse.
The improvements, which Amey is carrying out on behalf of Transport Scotland, will benefit more than 13,400 vehicles who use this route each day, creating a smoother ride for motorists and reducing the need for ongoing maintenance.
Please note, all schemes are weather dependent and may be cancelled or rescheduled if weather conditions are not favourable.
