Open evenings at Bunsgoil Ghàidhlig Inbhir Nis

Parents and local community groups are being invited by The Highland Council to attend open evenings arranged for them to view the new Gaelic School, Bunsgoil Ghàidhlig Inbhir Nis, near Inverness Royal Academy.

On Thursday 31st May from 6.30 to 9pm parents and guardians can drop in to the school to meet the staff and representatives from the Gaelic Learners Association, Commun Na Gaidhlig, Bòrd na Gaidhlig and other gaelic organisations.

Local community groups are also being invited to a similar open evening on Tuesday 12th June at the same times. An AGM will take place to elect a management committee for the community element of the school.

Bun-sgoil Ghàidhlig Inbhir Nis, is Highland Council's first designated purpose-built all Gaelic school and will open for pupils in August 2007.  The school, with seven classrooms and associated communal space has been designed for a maximum roll of 150 pupils.  Forty six children aged three and four have already been enrolled for the nursery which incorporates a wrap-around childcare facility.

The school has a multi-purpose hall with retractable seating, a sports pitch and parental resource room as well as accommodation for an Education, Culture and Sport Service Gaelic Development Officer. Bun-sgoil Ghàidhlig Inbhir Nis is expected to become a focus for Gaelic events and organisations in the Inverness community.

Head Teacher, Janet MacLeod, said: “We look forward to meeting parents whether their children are already enrolled for the new term or if they are considering their children attending the new Gaelic School. We are also keen to meet local community group representatives on the 12th June who might be interested in making use of the excellent new facilities that we will have in the school.”
