Highland winter road conditions report – Thursday, 19 October
The information provided is a summary of reports from operational staff and is intended to give a general indication of typical conditions in each area at a point in time. It is not intended to imply that any individual route is entirely snow and ice free and drivers must be aware that conditions can change rapidly and make their own assessment of conditions for travelling.

Road condition reports for Thursday, 19 October 2023 are as follows:
Lochaber – (as at 08:26)
Positive road surface temperatures, a couple of trees came down overnight across the road on the B863 bottom road. These have been cleared.
Ross and Cromarty West (as at 11:10)
Road between Duncraig and Achmore is currently blocked due to fallen trees. Operatives are attending.
Caithness (as at 08:43)
Positive road surface temperatures this morning, no winter action required. Strong winds, but operatives are out patrolling the roads for debris. No known overnight issues to report.
Sutherland (as at 12:03)
U2126 Oykel Bailey Bridge Road – road closed. Tree down on C1074 Atlass – operatives have attended to enable to road to re-open. B869 Drumbeg affected by low hanging branches – operatives attending. B9168 Poles Road, Dornoch – tree down, crews in attendance - Update (14:26) Road reopened.
Inverness (as at 07:50)
Roads dry in the area. No known problems.
Isle of Skye and Raasay (as at 05:26)
Positive road surface temperatures in the area. No winter action required.
Power Outages
A number of power outages are impacting several areas:
- Durness, Kinlochbervie, Lochinver, Bonar Bridge
- Dornie, Achiltiebuie, Ullapool, Gairloch, Glenelg
- Invergarry, Mallaig, Roy Bridge, Kilchoan
Weather warnings
A number of Met Office weather warnings are currently in place affecting a number of areas throughout Highland:
- Yellow warning for wind (effective 19 October 03.00am until 20 October 12.00pm)
- Amber warning for rain (effective 19 October 6.00pm until 20 October 9.00am)
- Yellow warning for rain (effective 19 October 6.00am until 21 October 11.59pm)
