Highland winter road conditions report - Thursday 2 November 2023
The information provided is a summary of reports from operational staff and is intended to give a general indication of typical conditions in each area at a point in time. It is not intended to imply that any individual route is entirely snow and ice free and drivers must be aware that conditions can change rapidly and make their own assessment of conditions for travelling.

Road condition reports for Thursday, 2 November 2023 are as follows:
- Wester Ross (10:00) - Positive road surface temperatures and wet roads on low ground with just one gritter mobilised on the Bealach. Slight snow cover, 10 grams put out over the highest part of the route.
- Skye and Raasay (06:01) - positive road surface temperatures this moring, no winter action. No overnight issues to report
- Inverness (06:10) - Some low road surface temperatures this morning with damp roads. Covering main roads on Tomatin, B852 and B862. Also the Southern Distributor Road, West link and Milton of Leys. Temperatures are due to rise quickly this morning. No known issues.
- Nairn (07:08) - Primary and secondary routes being treated due to negative road surface temperatures. No overnight issues.
- Badenoch and Strathspey (07:09) - Primary and secondary routes being treated this morning due to ice and low temperatures. No known overnight issues.
- Lochaber (08:06) - Winter treatment on the highest routes completed. No other action, no other issues reported on network.
- Ross and Cromarty East (08:09) - Road surface temperatures below on all routes. All primary network checked and treated. Mid-area marginal temperatures with the predicted drop at daylight, routes checked and no issues reported. No overnight issues reported.
- Caithness (08:15) - Positive road surface temperatures. Wet roads, no action required.
- Sutherland (08:37) - Gritting vechicles mobilised to certain routes in mid-Sutherland at 08:00. Some issues with localised frost/ice.
There is a yellow weather warning for rain effective from 6am today until 6am tomorrow (Friday 3 November 2023). Heavy rain associated with Storm Ciarán could bring some disruption to eastern parts of the region. Rainfall amounts are likely to reach 20-30 mm widely, with 40-60 mm accumulating over high ground.
