Highland Road Conditions Report – Wednesday, 13 December 2023

The information provided is a summary of reports from operational staff and is intended to give a general indication of typical conditions in each area at a point in time.  It is not intended to imply that any individual route is entirely snow and ice free and drivers must be aware that conditions can change rapidly and make their own assessment of conditions for travelling.

Highland Road Conditions Reports for Wednesday, 13 December 2023 are as follows:

Wester Ross, Strathpeffer and Lochalsh

10:09 – A cold morning with temperatures below zero in some areas earlier this morning. There is some hoar frost and icy patches present on higher routes. Treatment has taken place.

Lochaber

09:20 – Some routes affected with damp and slippery conditions. All routes have been treated and caution is advised.

Ross and Cromarty East

09:00 – There are damp roads with a touch of frost and icy patches on higher ground, which have received treatment. All primary and secondary routes have been checked and treated as a precaution.

Badenoch and Strathspey

08:51 – Precautionary main road treatments have taken place due to risk of ice.

Nairn

08:50 – Precautionary main road treatments have taken place due to risk of ice.

Skye and Raasay

08:42 – A cold morning with road surface temperatures below zero and hoar frost in area. Treatment is ongoing on Primary and Secondary routes. There are no known overnight issues.

Caithness

08:39 – There are some icy patches on the east coast but black ice is affecting inland routes and the Halkirk/Thurso areas. Black ice is also reported on footpaths in Thurso and there are some reports of issues in Halkirk. Treatment is ongoing.

Sutherland

08:13 – Most routes are affected by hoar frost with icy patches in some sheltered areas. Treatment is ongoing as necessary. There are no known issues.

Inverness

06:47 – Treatment has taken place on the A831 as temperatures are close to freezing, but road surface temperatures are mostly positive in the area.
