Highland Road Conditions Report – Friday, 22 December 2023

The information provided is a summary of reports from operational staff and is intended to give a general indication of typical conditions in each area at a point in time.  It is not intended to imply that any individual route is entirely snow and ice free and drivers must be aware that conditions can change rapidly and make their own assessment of conditions for travelling.

Highland Road Conditions Reports for Friday, 22 December 2023 are as follows:

Easter Ross
09:45 - Positive temperatures and wet roads.  No winter issues.

Skye and Raasay
08:37 – Positive road surface temperatures throughout.  No winter action required.

Caithness

08:12 – Wet roads due to rain and sleet showers.  All routes treated as precaution, no issues reported.

Wester Ross
07:02 - Sleety showers across The Fain and around Elphin and Ledmore.  Gritters deployed.  No overnight issues.

Badenoch and Strathspey
06:09 – Temperatures higher than forecast.  Gritters stood down this morning.  Surface water on roads throughout the area due to heavy rain fall overnight.  Drivers are advised to take care.  No known overnight issues.

Sutherland
06:03 - Temperatures higher than forecast with rain heavy in places throughout the area. No winter action required.  No known overnight issues.

Inverness
06:06 – Roads are wet but no problems.

Nairn
06:08 - Temperatures higher than forecast – winter action cancelled.  A lot of surface water on the roads throughout the area.  Drivers are advised to take care.  No known overnight issues.

At the time of issue, there were no schools and nurseries closed today.

The Met Office have issued a Yellow Warning for snow and ice for Highland (Friday and Saturday) All weather warnings are available on the Met Office website.
