Highland Road Conditions Report – Thursday 28 December 2023

The information provided is a summary of reports from operational staff and is intended to give a general indication of typical conditions in each area at a point in time.  It is not intended to imply that any individual route is entirely snow and ice free and drivers must be aware that conditions can change rapidly and make their own assessment of conditions for travelling.

Highland Road Conditions Reports for Thursday 28 December 2023 are as follows:

Caithness
07:59 - Wet roads and positive road surface temperatures on nearly all routes. Crews are treating part of one route with marginal temps as a precaution. No other known issues to report.

Easter Ross
08:53 - Damp roads with standing water in places on lower ground, higher routes have the odd sparkle and icy patches. All roads checked and treated accordingly. No overnight issues to report.

Skye and Raasay
05:45 - Wet and mild. No Winter activity required. No overnight issues to report.

Lochaber
07:35 - Wet and mild overnight so no winter treatments required. Glen Nevis road remains closed with unstable and windblown trees. The clear up will take place during today. No other issues reported overnight.

Wester Ross (Ward 5)
10:15 - Wet roads with temperatures rising.Higher routes checked and no issues. No overnight issues reported either.

Badenoch and Strathspey
08:35 - Roads generally wet with icy patches and wet snow on highest routes. Marginal temperatures. Precautionary treatment to Primary and Secondary routes. A939 Grantown to Tomintoul road has reopened (at 10.15am) after being closed due to drifting snow. B970 closed between Loch Insh and Rothiemurchus due to multiple fallen trees.

Sutherland
10:29 - Mainly clear this morning with some frost and icy patches in the Bonar and Lairg areas and also between Aultnamain and Ardross on the Struie Road. Debris on the A836 at Strathy due to washout of the verging / ditch. Crews also patrolling to check for storm damage. All roads are open but drivers advised to take care as debris may still need to be cleared.

Inverness
09:00 – No winter activity required. No known problems.

Nairn
08:27 - Roads generally wet with some marginal temperatures. Precautionary treatment to Primary and Secondary routes. No known problems.
