Highland Road Conditions Report – Tuesday 09 January 2024
The information provided is a summary of reports from operational staff and is intended to give a general indication of typical conditions in each area at a point in time. It is not intended to imply that any individual route is entirely snow and ice free and drivers must be aware that conditions can change rapidly and make their own assessment of conditions for travelling.

Highland Road Conditions Reports for Tuesday 09 January 2024 are as follows:
Caithness
08:27 - Freezing temperatures all over this morning. Main roads are damp with good salt levels, and there is white frost on side roads. No known overnight issues to report.
Ross & Cromarty - East Group
08:21 – Temperatures are below freezing this morning with reduced visibility and frost on verges. Primary routes salty damp, secondary and others have high salt levels following on from previous days treatment and there has been no precipitation. All primary routes checked and treated this morning. No overnight issues reported.
Lochaber
08:13 - Treatment carried out as planned. Roads are damp, some sparkly with ice. Very low road surface temperatures. No issues overnight
Sutherland
08:09 – Widespread hoar frost throughout the area, with ice forming in places where water is lying. All routes currently being treated in order of priority. No known issues.
Skye and Raasay
08:01 - Road temperatures dipping below minus 7C this morning. Heavy overnight frosts with icy patches affecting most routes. Treatment underway across all routes but please be aware that Route 6 treatments in Minginish area are running late this morning. Driver caution advised on all routes. No overnight issues to report.
Ward 5 Wester Ross
07:24 - Very cold and dry overnight. All main routes were pre-gritted last night. No reported overnight issues.
Badenoch and Strathspey
06:48 - Very cold this morning with frost and icy patches throughout the area. All routes being treated as well as all footpath routes. No known overnight issues.
Nairn
06:47 - Frost patches on high routes and damp roads on lower routes with heavy fog. All routes being treated as well as footpaths. No known overnight issues.
Inverness
06:35 - Dry overhead, roads still damp with very low RST's. Covering all routes and footpaths. No known issues.
At the time of issue, there are no schools or nurseries closed today as a result of bad weather. Our school closure webpage is updated from 8am and cleared by 6pm each evening.
