The Highland Council is asking the public to report any information they may have about the theft of snow poles taken from a section of the A838 route in Sutherland.

A member of the public contacted the local roads team to report that 12 snow poles had been cut off to near ground level on the A838 between the Skerricha Junctions (Laxford – Rhiconich).

The Council has reported the theft to Police Scotland.

Highland Council’s Head of Roads, Tracey Urry said: “Roadside snow poles play an important role in the safety of all road users during the winter. In fact they are essential for drivers in remote areas when visibility is poor.

“Not only is this criminal damage to Council property, but it means a cost to the local authority as these vital poles will need to be replaced. Such expense would be better spent carrying out essential road improvements.”
