Highland Road Conditions Report – Tuesday 16 January 2024
The information provided is a summary of reports from operational staff and is intended to give a general indication of typical conditions in each area at a point in time. It is not intended to imply that any individual route is entirely snow and ice free and drivers must be aware that conditions can change rapidly and make their own assessment of conditions for travelling.

Highland Road Conditions Reports for Tuesday 16 January 2024 are as follows:
Badenoch and Strathspey
06:58 - Ice and frost across the network this morning with negative temperatures. All resources are deployed and all routes are being treated. More snow and low temperatures are forecast for throughout the day and evening. Caution advised on all roads and footpaths across the area.
Nairn

Skye and Raasay
08:47 - Widespread coverage of snow overnight to all levels (1-5 inches). Treatment ongoing on Primary & Secondary Routes. Section of A863 (immediately south of Dunvegan) & A850 (Edinbane - Borve) impacted by a breakdown earlier this morning.
Sutherland
08:20 - Snow and ice affecting all routes with heavy periods of snowfall. Currently up to about six inches of fresh snowfall, but with up to one foot of snow reported on the A897 north of Kinbrace. Snow clearing continuing in line with policy.
Ross & Cromarty
06:25 - A light covering of fresh snow through the night and sub-zero temperatures are causing difficult driving conditions. More snow and low temperatures are forecast throughout the day and evening. All resources are deployed and all routes are being treated. Caution advised on all roads and footpaths across the area.
Lochaber
08:06 - Light snow showers inland with heavier snow showers in the westerly areas. Lying snow on most routes. Treatments ongoing in priority order. No issues reported overnight.
Inverness
06:21 - A dusting of snow on some high roads. Elsewhere the roads are either dry or salty/damp.
Wester Ross
07:03 - Snow and sub zero temperatures affecting most routes. All resources deployed to treat all routes including footways. With snow forecasted for later, caution is advised on all routes. No overnight issues reported.
Caithness
08:29 - Snow and ice affecting all routes. Four to five inches of snow covering on routes, with some drifting. Double run on main routes before going onto others. Town footpaths also have a good covering of snow on and teams are also treating rural paths. A few issues first thing with lorries stuck on steep braes, but all moving now. Treatment ongoing throughout the day.
At the time of issue, there are a number of schools or nurseries closed today as a result of bad weather. Our school closure webpage is updated from 8am and cleared by 6pm each evening.
