Highland Road Conditions Report – Monday 22 January 2024
The information provided is a summary of reports from operational staff and is intended to give a general indication of typical conditions in each area at a point in time. It is not intended to imply that any individual route is entirely snow and ice free and drivers must be aware that conditions can change rapidly and make their own assessment of conditions for travelling.

Storm Isha - Numerous roads have been affected by fallen trees and debris as well as some closed by flooding. Roads teams have been working very hard to re-open all routes. Updates are being continually posted on our social media channels.
Last night (Sunday 21 January 2024) saw unusually widespread, very strong winds across Scotland. A Met Office RED warning was declared for East Highland and the Moray Firth around midnight which lasted until 5am. The Amber alert was downgraded to Yellow this morning, and this remains in place until noon today.

Badenoch and Strathspey
08:13 - Wet roads throughout the area. Bridge of Brown treated as a precaution due to negative road surface temperatures. Debris on all routes across the network due to Storm Isha. Crews mobilised to check the network for debris and fallen trees.
Nairn
08:14 - Wet roads throughout the area. No winter action needed. Debris on all routes across the network due to Storm Isha. Crews mobilised to check the network for debris and fallen trees.
Sutherland
06:46 - All standby crews carrying out road safety patrols due to Storm Isha. Currently no winter related hazards.
Lochaber
07:10 - Very wet and windy overnight due to Storm Isha. No winter related hazards. The A861 remains partially blocked at Conaglen with a rock fall and windblown trees. Crews will be out on safety patrols this morning.
Inverness
10:20 - No winter action due to higher than forecast temperatures. Working to clear fallen trees across the network, all roads open at this time.
Wester Ross
08:16 - Winter action on Bealach this morning only. Safety Patrols ongoing this morning due to Storm Isha. Moy Bridge closed due to rising river levels.
Caithness
05:42 – Wet and windy conditions due to Storm Isha. No winter related hazards. Crews will be out on safety patrols this morning.
Easter Ross
10:51 - Positive road temperatures, wet roads with numerous puddles. No winter related issues.
At the time of issue, there are a number of schools or nurseries closed today as a result of Storm Isha. Our school closures is updated from 8am and cleared by 6pm each evening.
