Met Office Yellow weather warning

The information provided is a summary of reports from operational staff and is intended to give a general indication of typical conditions in each area at a point in time.  It is not intended to imply that any individual route is entirely snow and ice free and drivers must be aware that conditions can change rapidly and make their own assessment of conditions for travelling.

A Met Office Yellow warning for Wind is in place until 3pm today. Information on weather warnings is available on the Met Office website (external link).

Strong winds are expected in association with Storm Jocelyn, leading to possible disruption to travel and utilities.

Highland Road Conditions Report for Wednesday 24 January 2024 are as follows:

Skye and Raasay

05:33 - Positive road temperatures, no winter action. No overnight issues to report.

Badenoch and Strathspey

07:54 - Surface water across the whole network. Motorists advised to take car driving in the area today. No winter action needed due to positive temperatures. No known overnight issues.

Nairn

07:54 - Surface water across the whole network. Motorists advised to take car driving in the area today. No winter action needed due to positive temps. No known overnight issues.

Sutherland

07:12 - No winter related hazards this morning. There have been weather related issues overnight with the potential for disruption.

Lochaber

08:02 - Wet and windy overnight, some windblown trees on network being removed. Flood gates at Lochside closed following SEPA warning just before midnight (Tuesday 23 Jan) but no longer in place from 10am (Wed 24 Jan). Corran Ferry back in service this morning.

Wester Ross

07:36 - Very wet and stormy night with lots of standing water. No overnight issues reported.

Caithness

08:22 – Heavy rain and strong winds with positive road surface temperatures. No winter action required. No other known issues to report.

Ross & Cromarty East

09:34 – No winter related road issues, wet and windy. No road closures across operational area.

At the time of issue, there are a number of schools or nurseries closed today as a result of Storm Jocelyn. Our school closures page is updated from 8am and cleared by 6pm each evening.
