Winter Road Conditions Report - 7 February 2024

The information provided is a summary of reports from operational staff and is intended to give a general indication of typical conditions in each area at a point in time.  It is not intended to imply that any individual route is entirely snow and ice free and drivers must be aware that conditions can change rapidly and make their own assessment of conditions for travelling.

Highland Road Conditions Report for Wednesday, 7 February 2024 are as follows:             

Inverness

08:32 - Overnight snow on all routes this morning with low road surface temperatures.  Covering all routes and footpaths this morning.  B852 Dores to Foyers remains closed and landslide at Wester Lovat still not cleared.  No other known issues.

Wester Ross

07:10 – Snow across the network this morning.  All routes being checked.  No overnight issues.

10:11 – Road traffic collision on A890 at Auchertyre.

Skye and Raasay

07:33 - Widespread snow fall (1cm) overnight with frost impacting on travel this morning.  Further snow showers forecast this morning.  Full call out with treatments running on all routes and footways by priority.  No overnight issues to report.

Nairn

06:39 - Dusting of snow across the network this morning.  All routes being treated and no known overnight issues.

Badenoch and Strathspey

06:38 - Snow across the network this morning.  All routes being treated.  No known overnight issues.

Ross and Cromarty East

08:03 - All routes have a covering of snow this morning from 10mm at lower ground to 30-40mm at higher ground.  Primary routes generally good from evening treatment, secondary and other route treatment on-going.

Caithness

07:35 - Good covering of snow over most of the county.  Up to 50mm of snow in places.  All weekend routes being treated this morning due to lorry availability, footpath treatments ongoing also.  No known overnight issues to report.

Sutherland

08:30 - All routes affected by snow cover this morning, varying from 25mm to 250mm over the highest routes.  All routes currently being bladed and treated as necessary in accordance with the winter maintenance policy.

At the time of issue, there are a number of school closures. Our school closures page is updated from 8am and cleared by 6pm each evening:

  • Rogart Primary Nursery:  Closed ()
  • Scourie Primary:  Partially closed - opening 1 hour later ()
