Council response to Scottish Government Budget

The Highland Council has welcomed the “vote of confidence” given to local government by the Scottish Government.

Vice-Convener, Councillor Jean Urquhart, who is chairman of the Budget Working Group, commented after the Budget speech by Finance Secretary John Swinney: “I think the Minister has given a vote of confidence to Local Government today.

He has put elected members back in the driving seat and challenged us with delivering better public services more efficiently and more effectively.  I believe the Administration is able to do this. We share a number of goals with the Government and look forward to achieving these.

“The  freeze on the Council Tax will be welcomed by everyone and is another incentive for us to deliver our Programme for Administration within budget.”
