Three Bin Collection Trial in Easter Ross

100 volunteer households in the Easter Ross/Cromarty Firth area are to be invited to participate in a six-month three-bin collection trial, starting early in the new year.

Easter Ross and Cromarty Firth has been chosen for the trial because of the availability of a privately-operated in-vessel composter at Evanton – the only facility of its type in Highland.

The scheme hopes to obtain information on contamination levels, recycling levels and to highlight any potential issues with the collection of food waste on a weekly basis with garden waste.

The trial will last for six months, starting in late January/early February.  Results will be reported back to the TEC Services Committee.

Councillor John Laing, Chairman of TEC Services Committee, said:  “The trial aims to provide data on the quantity and quality of recyclate using 240-litre bins.   It will also give us useful information on the practicability of a weekly combined green and food waste collection service.   Finally, it will provide  real cost data for operating the service.”
