Uig’s new ferry terminal construction to begin early summer
The construction of a new ferry terminal building in Uig on the Isle of Skye, will be proceeding following a contract award to Robertson Construction Northern. Works are due to commence early summer, with completion in Spring 2025.
The facility is part of a wider scheme to redevelop the Uig Harbour and the new building will be located on reclaimed land in front of the existing ticket office.
Economy and Infrastructure Committee Chair, Cllr Ken Gowans said: “The Uig redevelopment project is progressing well, and I’m sure a new modern ferry terminal will be welcomed by everyone using the facilities.
“We wish the awarded contractor – Robertson every success with the build and look forward to receiving regular project updates. A Highland based contractor successfully being awarded the contract is beneficial to the circular economy of the Highlands and will offer opportunity for local employment. This in-line with our Community Wealth Building policy.”
Robertson Construction Northern, Regional Managing Director, Ian Phillips said: “The new ferry terminal is a great investment, and one that will bring real benefits to the local community long before it opens. We know the local supply chain well, and in line with our responsible business approach, we will be maximising opportunities for local businesses and people to ensure that we deliver both social and economic benefits for Uig and the surrounding area.
“I have no doubt that together with The Highland Council, we will deliver a project that meets the needs of both residents and visitors alike.”
The Uig redevelopment is a £3.5M project jointly funded by Transport Scotland and The Highland Council. The works have been designed by Council’s Property Team, who will also manage the works on site.
