Pop-up play and childcare career event in Skye
An upcoming free pop-up play event seeks to promote career opportunities across the Isle of Skye in Early Learning & Childcare and childminding to potential candidates.
Professional childminders provide an essential and much needed service within rural and remote communities. For individuals with their own childcare responsibilities, childminding can be a good career option as it combines earning an income while caring for their children at home.
Anyone in attendance will have the unique opportunity to speak to key representatives within the industry who will be delighted to answer any questions and offer advice. The Highland Council will be joined by partner stalls from Care and Learning Alliance, University of the Highlands and Islands, Portree Nursery Ltd, Skills Development Scotland and Fàs Mòr. The event has been organised in partnership with Highlands and Islands Enterprise and the Lochalsh and Skye Housing Association.
The event will take place at one of the Council’s partner provider locations, Portree Nursery Ltd, at their premises on Blaven Road, Portree on Saturday 27 April 2024 between 11am and 2pm. The Care and Learning Alliance has kindly organised some fun pop-up play activities so children are welcome to join.
Education Chair, Cllr John Finlayson said: “Finding professional childcare is a current challenge and particular concern for families living in the West area of Highland. Smaller communities rely on quality childcare provision to rejoin the workforce which in turn grows our local economy. This family centred pop-up event is just one example of the ongoing partnership working between organisations to help reach out to any potential and interested candidates who can help to fill this gap in provision. I would encourage anyone seeking a career in childcare, or perhaps interested in a career change, to come along and find out more about the benefits of what is a fulfilling and valuable role within our community.”
