Chair announces road safety works to start at busy city junction

The Chair of The Highland Council’s Economy and Infrastructure Committee, Councillor Ken Gowans is pleased to announce that road safety improvement works to a busy Inverness junction are programmed to start on the 30 September 2024.

He said: “The Tower Road and Culloden Road junction has proved particularly hazardous for many years. I have been very keen to greatly improve the road safety at this point for drivers and pedestrians due to a number of accidents and near misses. 

“Strath Civil Engineering Limited will be carrying out the work that will include alterations to the layout of the B9006 Culloden Road/Tower Road junction to provide a new signalized junction layout. They are due to start on site on Monday 30 September and we will be doing all we can to keep any disruption to a minimum.

“As a ward councillor for this area I know that making improvements to safety on this busy route is a priority to the local community. I am delighted that we have a contractor in place and a start date.”

As the works require alterations to utility plant which needs a road closure to implement, the upper end of Tower Road – between Caulfield Road and Culloden Road - will be closed for part of the contract duration with traffic diverted via Caulfield Road. The B9006 Culloden Road will remain open but will be subject to traffic control at various times during the works. Using the road closure will reduce the duration of the works, minimise the use of three way traffic lights and minimise delays to traffic on Culloden Road.

The works are expected to last 8 weeks.
