Timetable for Highland Council Ward 21 By-Election confirmed

The timetable for the election of one Councillor to represent Ward 21 Fort William and Ardnamurchan has been confirmed. 

The by-election is being held following the resignation of Councillor Angus MacDonald (Scottish Liberal Democrats), most recently elected, Member of Parliament for the Constituency Inverness, Skye and West Ross-shire.   

The Notice of Election and timetable for this election will be published online on Thursday 3 October 2024 at www.highland.gov.uk/byelection

Prospective candidates will have until 4pm on Monday 21 October 2024 to submit their completed nomination forms to the nominated Depute Returning Officer at The Highland Council, Community Support - Contact & Engagement, Charles Kennedy Building, Achintore Road, Fort William, PH33 6RQ by prior appointment between the hours of 10am and 4pm on any working day. 

Prior to lodging papers Candidates and Agents should email election@highland.gov.uk or contact 07496 176004 or 07775 411321 to arrange an appointment and have their nomination paper informally checked. 

If the seat is contested, the polls will take place on Thursday 21 November 2024 with an electronic count taking place on Friday 22 November 2024. 

Anyone aged over 16 who is living in Ward 21 is eligible to vote in this By-Election if they are registered. To register to vote visit www.gov.uk/register-to-vote .  

Alternatively, call the Electoral Registration Office on 0800 393783 to request a paper application form.  The last date to register to vote in this By-Election is midnight on Tuesday 5 November 2024.
