Culloden Battle of the Bands

Young bands from the Culloden area of Inverness will compete in a Battle of the Bands this Friday 30th November at an event hosted by the SCY Centre.

The event is a partnership project between Rise2Red Studios, SCYC and The Highland Council’s Youth Development Team.

Starting at 7.30pm and finishing at 11pm, four bands from the Culloden area will have a half hour slot to showcase and impress the judges with their talent. Following the competition Graham Gillanders from Rise2Red Studios will ensure there is plenty of good dance music played during the last half hour of the event.

The event is the second of its kind to be held in the SCY Centre in Culloden. The organisers hope that, if successful, there will be additional events and future projects of this nature for young people within the Culloden, and Inverness wide, area to participate.

Graham, who has worked with Atomic Kitten and is currently negotiating a project at BMG (who’s label includes Natalie Imbruglia), is heavily involved with Youth Bands in Inverness and says: “Events like this help to identify young talent in the Inverness and Highland area which can lead on to us using music as a medium to help with the personal and social development in young people.”

The prize, sponsored by Landmark Forest Theme Park in Carr Bridge, is a recording session in Rise2Red Studios, where bands such as The Rites, Theatre Fall and Low Tide Revallry have recorded.  This session will also involve working with John Sinclair. John has worked with various heavy metal bands and is recognised as one of the best session musicians available in the U.K. He spent seventeen years touring and performing with Ozzy Osbourne and uses this experience to coach young people not only on music, but the dangers of alcohol and drugs.

In addition to the bands, there will be other entertainment in the form of some circus skills on show. Tickets are £1 at the door and there will be refreshments available.
