Education support for Armed Forces pupils and families
At the Education Committee on Thursday 21 November, a report will be presented to Members updating the work of the Military Liaison Group (Education) which includes key performance data.
Education Committee Chair, Cllr John Finlayson said: “The Highland Council are proud custodians of the ‘Armed Forces Covenant’ and with almost 950 children from Armed Forces Families reported to be in schools across highland, it is vitally important to us that we continue to support our military families throughout their educational journey.
“Data indicates that overall, in Highland, we manage to support our Armed Forces Families well and in general children from armed forces families are performing similarly to the general Highland population.
“The report and the key performance data is very promising, and the armed forces pupils and families should be proud of their achievements. The work of the MLG (Education) in supporting pupils and families is exemplary, and the holistic approach to partnership working commendable.”
The resources we use across Highland are created or informed by children, young people and families themselves and the coordination of this work through the MLG ensures that multi-agency approach is taken in all the work we do to support the educational objectives of the ‘Armed Forces Covenant’.
The Military Liaison Group (Education) provides a unique partnership of services and agencies that come together regularly to plan and provide support to children of Armed Forces Families in Highland schools. The MLG have a wealth of experience and can offer a committed partnership that is proactive in offering advice, guidance and key support to military families, educators and practitioners in Highland.
