City Centre Parking Proposals Go On Display
Proposals for the permanent parking and loading arrangements within Inverness city centre, to be introduced as part of the Streetscape Programme, are now on public display at The Highland Council’s Service Point at 23 Church Street between 9am and 5pm Monday to Friday.
The display includes detailed schedules, along with a map showing the areas affected and The Highland Council’s reasons for proposing to change the parking and loading orders. Anyone wishing to object to any part of the proposed orders has until Friday, 19 October, to make representations.
The streets affected include: Church Street, Union Street, Queensgate, Baron Taylor’s Street, Lombard Street, Drummond Street, Fraser Street, Friars Street and Post Office Avenue. Changes are proposed to the configuration of loading bays, pay and display parking and disabled bays. Loading is to be restricted in some areas at certain times and additional daytime and evening taxi stances are to be created.
Twenty additional pay and display spaces will be created on Friars Street while the nine spaces on Union Street/Queensgate will be converted to loading bays. The total planned provision is: 14 parking places on Church Street and 20 on Friars Street; 3 motor cycle bays; 13 disabled bays; 1 police stance; 2 taxi rank spaces on Queensgate and 9 overnight rank spaces on Union Street/Fraser Street; and 12 loading bays throughout.
Provost Bob Wynd, Chariman of Inverness City Committee of The Highland Council, said: “The proposed Parking and Loading Order demonstrates the Council’s commitment to keeping the city centre accessible, while balancing the need to control activities in certain areas and times of the day to ease traffic congestion and pedestrian movements.”
