Highland Winter Road Conditions Report – Wednesday 4 December 2024

The information provided is a summary of reports from operational staff and is intended to give a general indication of typical conditions in each area at a point in time.  It is not intended to imply that any individual route is entirely snow and ice free and drivers must be aware that conditions can change rapidly and make their own assessment of conditions for travelling.

Highland Road Conditions Report for Wednesday 4 December 2024 are as follows:

Caithness (09:18) - wet roads all over this morning. All routes treated this morning due to falling temperatures and a risk of ice. No overnight issues.

Road Closure - Tulloch Castle Drive - Dingwall (09:13) - Police have closed the road at Tulloch Castle Drive - access to Ross Avenue and Dingwall Primary School affected. This is due to a road traffic incident. 

Lochaber (09:00) - Treatment on all primary routes are completed with secondary routes starting. Rain overnight falling on some frozen surfaces, with low temperatures recorded.

Sutherland (08:01) -  All routes been treated, icy stretches frozen slush and a light dusting of snow on high ground. Milder to the west of the area.

Ross and Cromarty East (07:58) - Snow, sleet and ice overnight with temperatures having rising before dropping again this morning. Very slippy icy conditions across the network this morning. All routes being treated along with footpaths this morning.

Badenoch and Strathspey (07:36) - Wet roads throughout the area with frost/ice patches. Some snow fall overnight but not causing any problems. All routes being treated this morning with no known overnight issues.

Nairn (07:35) - Wet roads throughout the area with frost/ice patches. All routes being treated this morning with no known overnight issues.

Wester Ross, Strathpeffer and Lochalsh (06:20) - Wet roads with low road surface temperatures. Black Ice reported on A832 Gorstan to Achnasheen. Treatment in progress. Positive temps forecasted late morning. No other issues to report

Inverness (05:50) - Wet roads with low road surface temperatures this morning. Treatment covering all policy routes, no known issues.
