Highland Winter Road Conditions Report – Wednesday, 11 December 2024

The information provided is a summary of reports from operational staff and is intended to give a general indication of typical conditions in each area at a point in time.  It is not intended to imply that any individual route is entirely snow and ice free and drivers must be aware that conditions can change rapidly and make their own assessment of conditions for travelling.

Highland Road Conditions Report for Wednesday, 11 December 2024 are as follows:    

Inverness (06:12) Isolated grey frost and icy patches on roads, gritters starting to treat all routes.

Badenoch and Strathspey (06:07) Mix of dry and damp roads with ice and frost.  All routes being treated this morning with footpaths included.  No known issues overnight.

Nairn (06:06) Mix of dry and damp roads with ice and frost.  All routes being treated this morning with footpaths included.  No known issues overnight.

East Ross-shire (06:35) Another cold night with a touch of frost in places.  Roads either damp with salt, or dry.  No known issues.

Lochaber (08:23) Damp roads with road surface temperatures close to or above zero.  All affected routes currently being treated by priority.  No issues overnight.

Sutherland (07:49) Damp roads with road surface temperatures close to or below zero inland.  All affected routes currently being treated in order of priority.  No known issues.

Caithness (08:43) Road surface temperatures are okay and no action required.  No overnight issues to report.

Skye and Raasay (08:32) Road surface temperatures higher than forecast this morning.  Gritters stood down at 06:20am.  No issues reported overnight.

Wester Ross, Strathpeffer and Lochalsh (07:13) Sub-zero road surface temperatures across the network throughout the night.  Good residual salt levels.  Treatment to two mountain passes – The Bealach and The Mam Rattagan currently ongoing.  No known overnight issues.

At the time of writing, there is one school in Highland closed today due to the weather.
