Highland Winter Road Conditions Report – Thursday 23 January 2025

The information provided is a summary of reports from operational staff and is intended to give a general indication of typical conditions in each area at a point in time.  It is not intended to imply that any individual route is entirely snow and ice free and drivers must be aware that conditions can change rapidly and make their own assessment of conditions for travelling.

The Met Office has a yellow warning for both snow and wind over the Highlands from Friday morning onwards.

Highland Road Conditions Report for Thursday 23 January 2025 are as follows:    

Skye and Raasay 05:52 - No winter action required. Positive road surface temperatures across the area. No overnight issues to report.

Nairn 07:21 - Dry roads with negative temperatures across the network. All routes are being treated to top up salt levels. No known overnight issues.

Badenoch and Strathspey 07:22 – A mix of dry and damp roads across the areas this morning. All routes are being treated as well as footpaths. No known overnight issues.

East Ross-shire 07:52 - Roads are generally dry or salty damp. Road temperatures have dropped below zero in places as the daylight is coming in, so ice is possible on any untreated surfaces. No known issues.

Caithness 07:56 - All routes have a mix of damp with sparkle and white frost. No overnight issues reported.

Lochaber 07:57 - Roads are mainly dry with some damp areas. Priority and secondary routes are being treated as planned. No problems overnight.

Sutherland 08:29 – Mainly damp roads but surface temperatures are below zero. Some routes have a hoar frost and stretches of black ice. All routes and footpaths being treated with no known overnight issues to report.

Inverness 09:25 - Roads are damp with isolated grey frost patches. All routes being gritted
