Inverness Library Events and National Bookstart Day Celebrations
A number of events have been organised at Inverness Library over the next few days to compliment the city’s Book Festival which is taking place.
On Friday the focus will be on younger readers as the library celebrates National Bookstart Day. Youngsters from Crown Nursery will be joining Children’s Librarian Elizabeth Parker for a special jungle party with songs, stories and rhymes. The children are invited to bring along a cuddly toy of their own favourite jungle animal so the library will be filled with lots of cheeky monkeys and several hissing snakes.
Throughout the day Bookstart packs will be distributed and staff will be on hand to talk to any parents about the scheme which encourages adults to read and share books with children from an early age.
On Saturday at 11.30am the fun continues with “People of the Sea”, a family show with Highland-based musician, composer and acclaimed storyteller, Bob Pegg.
The children’s section of the library has been specially decorated for the Inverness Book Festival by Lochalsh social firm Rag, Tag and Textile. The eye-catching colourful decorations are made of recycled material by adults recovering from mental health problems. Earlier in the year the firm worked with Highland Libraries to tour an exhibition of their work called “Weaving With Words”. Pieces of the artwork from this exhibition are on display at the library during the Festival.
The Inverness Library will be running a surprise book promotion whilst stocks last whereby library users of all ages will be able to take away a mystery book and may stand the chance of winning a £5.00 book token.
Throughout October there will also be an opportunity for all library users to take part in the Big Library Quiz. Participants have the chance of winning one of six jute bags with a selection of signed books. Quiz forms are now available at every Highland library.
