Council warns motorists to slow down near Inverness schools.

Motorists are being warned that full time 20mph speed restrictions are being introduced at two more schools in Inverness for children’s safety.

A full time 20 mph speed limit and one-way traffic order at Daviot Primary is scheduled to become operational on 12th October, 2007.

This will be the 36th School in the Inverness area to have a 20 mph speed limit. A total of 117 schools in Highland now have a 20 limit in operation.

Duncan Forbes and Cradlehall Primaries already have part-time 20 limits on the main roads.  A full time 20 limit will become operational on Culloden Park (a busy side entrance at Duncan Forbes Primary) and throughout Cradlehall Park.  These limits will become operational on 15th October, 2007.

Motorists are reminded that if they speed in the vicinity of Highland schools then the penalties will be tough. The Highland Council, Northern Constabulary and the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service (Highlands and Islands Area) are clear that if motorists are caught speeding near Highland schools where a 20mph limit is in place, then robust enforcement action will be taken by both the Police and the Procurator Fiscal Service.
