Young People From Hilton Rediscover Inverness

Nine teenagers from the Hilton area of the city have been chosen to have their photographic work displayed in the 'Hilton Rediscovered' exhibition which goes on display at Inverness Museum and Art Gallery’s Community Gallery on Tuesday 6 November.

As part of a summer activity programme, a photograph competition called 'Hilton Rediscovered' was held in August for young people aged between 11 and 16.  They were challenged to capture a black and white photograph of  'their Hilton' as they see it.

Youth Inclusive's creative worker Claire Richardson co-ordinated the competition and professional photographers, Andrew Duke and Reaaz Mohammed, were on hand to teach photographic skills and to encourage creativity.

1st prize went to Craig Taylor, 2nd prize to Stephan Luke and 3rd prize to Kerry Nicholson.

Claire Richardson said:  "This work is extremely important as it encourages the teenagers to use their creative skills and is great for building their confidence and positive community links. Youth Inclusive are very proud of the work that has been produced and we hope that people who live in Hilton will come and see how talented the young people in their area are."

Katey Boal, Learning and Access Officer at Inverness Museum and Art Gallery said: “It is the job of the museum to reflect what is happening in the community around it. I am ecstatic that youth inclusive and the young people of Hilton wanted to share their views of the city. This is something we can all be proud of.”

The exhibition runs from Tuesday the 6th of November to the 12th of December 2007 in the community gallery.  Inverness Museum and Art Gallery is open Monday to Saturday from 10aam to 5pm and admission is free.
