A Stroll Through Landseer’s Landscapes

Edwin Landseer is famous for his portrayal of Highland landscapes and its’ wildlife, in particular his famous painting “Monarch of the Glen”.  A lot of his inspiration came from walking in Glen Feshie.

The Highland Council’s Countryside Ranger Duncan MacDonald will be leading a guided walk in Glen Feshie on Wednesday 12 September to explore the landscapes that inspired the Victorian artist, its’ habitats, wildlife and history.

Suitable for well shod adults, the walk takes place from 11am to 4pm and anyone wishing to come should bring a packed lunch and meet up at Achlean car park at the end of the minor road off the B970 at Feshiebridge.  Well behaved dogs are welcome to accompany their owners.

Duncan Macdonald is looking forward to the walk.  He said: “Glen Feshie is a wonderful place to visit at anytime of the year, but the heather this year is truly spectacular blanketing the hillsides in purple.

“It is no wonder that Landseer was inspired by Glen Feshie, the variety of habitats, the wealth of wildlife and sheer awesomeness of the place makes it a firm favourite for many users.”

This guided walk is part of a programme of guided walks and events organised by Highland Council’s Countryside Rangers throughout the Highlands. Copies of the programmes can be found on the Council’s website at or by telephoning: 01540 673 907.

The Highland Council Countryside Rangers are a partnership between The Highland Council and Scottish Natural Heritage with the aim of promoting public enjoyment and appreciation of the countryside and conserving wildlife.
