Neurodevelopmental Assessment Services (NDAS) investment

Published: 26 March 2026

The Highland Council has agreed the next steps as part of a £1.2 million programme to reduce the waiting list for Neurodevelopmental Assessment Services (NDAS) in Highland.

At today’s meeting of the Highland Council, members agreed a high-level plan to reduce the waiting list and improve the assessment process and support available to children and young people with neurodevelopmental conditions like autism and ADHD. This work will sit separate from the Models of Integration review, which is looking at how the Council and NHS Highland work together to deliver health and social care services.

Derek Brown, Chief Executive of The Highland Council, said: “The investment will fund a programme focussed on reducing the current waiting list of more than 2000 children and young people, improving assessment times, and exploring new pathways for assessment and support in partnership with NHS Highland and specialist partners."

The NDAS investment is detailed in the Models of Integration report on The Highland Council website.
