Car Free Day In Inverness

Motorists in Inverness are reminded that during Car Free Day on Wednesday 19 September, Castle Road will be temporary closed to traffic at its junction with Haugh Road to it’s junction with Bridge Street between 9am and 5pm.

An alternative route for drivers will be available using Bridge Street, High Street, Castle Street and View Place. Vehicular access to Business Premises on Ness Bank will be via Cavell Gardens.

The temporary closure will not affect normal access for cyclists, pedestrians and emergency vehicles.

Car Free Day is promoted as part of European Mobility Week which runs from 17th – 21 September and Inverness is the only place in Scotland taking part this year.  The event aims to give people space to think about what urban streets are really for and encourages people to try alternative methods of transport.

Activities planned for the day along Castle Road when it is closed to traffic include:

• The creation of a greenspace with picnic area, live music and exhibition stands.
• Pedi-cabs for hire
• Seed planting sessions
• Free bike safety checks
• The chance to view a Jet Bus.
