Inverness Games To Make Annual Tribute Games Legend
The City of Inverness Highland Games Committee has announced details of their plans to honour the memory of the late Tom Mackenzie at next month’s Games which will be the first staged since his death last year.
It has been decided that the playing of "The Inverness Gathering" by solo piper Chris Macdonald at the start of the Opening Ceremony will be dedicated to Tom as a thank you from all the officials who worked with Tom as he served in various capacities during his 52 years of involvement with Games in the North of Scotland.
This will be followed later in the afternoon by the first ever public performance by the Inverness British Legion Pipes and Drums Band of the tune "Tribute to Tom Mackenzie" which was composed by Pipe Major William MacDonald of Benbecula.
The Committee has also announced that the "Tribute to Tom Mackenzie" will be played at all future City of Inverness Highland Games.
Games Chieftain Provost William Smith said: "The Mackenzie Family have very kindly agreed to allow us to add a tribute to Tom into our Games Programme and I can think of no better start to our Games than honouring a real Highland Games Legend."
