Council warns motorists to slow down near Ross schools

Motorists are being warned that part time 20mph speed restrictions have been introduced at another three schools in Ross and Cromarty for children’s safety.

The new speed limits are now in force at Gairloch Primary, Gairloch High and Hill of Fearn Primary School and operate when pupils are expected to be arriving or departing from the schools.

Drivers travelling near Gairloch Primary and Gairloch High should be aware that the 20mph part time speed limit applies on school days from: 8:30am to 9:05am; 3:00pm to 3:15pm; and 3:25pm to 3.40pm.

At Hill of Fearn Primary School the operational times for the lights are from: 8:45am to 9:00am; 12:30 to 12.45; 1:00pm to 1:15pm; 2:30pm to 2:45pm; and 3:00pm to 3:15pm.

Motorists are reminded that if they speed in the vicinity of Highland schools then the penalties will be tough. The Highland Council, Northern Constabulary and the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service (Highlands and Islands Area) are clear that if motorists are caught speeding near Highland schools where a 20mph limit is in place, then robust enforcement action will be taken by both the Police and the Procurator Fiscal Service.
