Wildlife Group To Receive Field Guides

The recently set up wildlife group in Garve will be receiving a contribution to their resources during their Reptile Survey workshop which is taking place on Saturday (19 April).

The Blackwater Wildlife Group, which is based at the Crannach Field Centre in Strathgarve, will be receiving free field guides from Martin Hind, The Highland Council’s  Easter Ross Countryside Ranger, to assist them in working towards their Ross & Cromarty East LBAP Greenspace Community Wildlife Audit Project.

The Group have been busy over the winter months recording badger setts and signs of these nocturnal animals for the project and for the Scottish Badger Distribution Survey.  Members receiving training in November from Elaine Rainey of Scottish Badgers and already a number of new setts have been discovered and recorded.

Resources will be available, through the Biodiversity Greenspace Community Wildlife Audit Project, to community groups who register an interest in recording wildlife for moth traps, bat detectors, pond dipping and minibeast equipment.

Martin Hind said:  “If any wildlife group is interested in getting out there and learning about and recording the wildlife on their doorstep, then help in providing resources to do this is available.   All people need to do is get in touch with me.”

Martin can be contacted on 01349 868563.
