Buy Into Highland

A new website / has been launched to provide a one stop shop for promoting the growing number of Social Enterprise businesses.

Social Enterprise is a new way of doing business that aims to benefit local communities in the Highlands. It is business carried out by a new breed of organisations which re-invest profit into local community initiatives rather than paying them to owners or shareholders. A growing number of these enterprises are making a big impact, particularly in areas such as social care, recycling and housing.

The web site allows visitors to search for social enterprises in their area and advises which goods and services are on offer to them or their business.

David Bryan of the Community Recycling Network for Scotland said: “More and more businesses and individuals are becoming interested in the impact of their activities on the local community. By buying goods and services from Social Enterprises, they are buying into Highland communities. Many of these enterprises also provide training, sheltered employment and volunteering placements which are great ways of encouraging people to re-engage with the job market. And because these are local initiatives, their goods and services typically have a low carbon footprint.”

“Not for profit community organisations in Highland or Moray can register their organisations online at / free of charge at any time. They can upload logos and pictures as well as a description of the goods and services they offer. The site offers a wide variety of services and products from meeting facilities, to computer recycling or even buying some soap.  A search in buyintohighland.com will find a supplier that meets your needs, and in so doing so you will be supporting Highland communities.  We are looking for as many enterprises as possible to enter their details so people in the Highlands have as wide a choice of products and services as possible to access through the Social Enterprise model.”
