Highland Ranger Guided Walks and Events

A programme of over 450 guided walks and events has been published by The Highland Council’s Countryside Rangers with the Planning and Development Service.

Three booklets are available listing details of walks and events throughout the year covering the areas of:
• Caithness & Sutherland;
• Ross & Cromarty, Inverness, Nairn, Badenoch & Strathspey; and
• Skye & Lochalsh and Lochaber.

Councillor Drew Hendry, Chairman of The Highland Council’s Planning, Environment and Development Committee said: “The programme stretches throughout the Highlands and helps to raise awareness and encourage appreciation of the scenery, wildlife, and heritage of the Highlands. It is an excellent opportunity not just for people who live here but also for visitors to take part in our wonderful great outdoors.”

Some highlights in the programme of walks and events include:
• a boat trip on the John o’ Groats ferry to Hoy;
• building a replica Viking boat at Borgie;
• meeting a Gruffalo in Wick and Abriachan;
• a whisky wander on Revack Estate;
• Steam n’ Stroll by steam train to Boat Of Garten and return walk to Aviemore;
• a land rover safari in Glencoe; and
• sea kayaking taster days at Plockton or Loch Duich.

The Highland Council’s Countryside Rangers are a partnership between the Council and Scottish Natural Heritage with the aim of promoting public enjoyment and appreciation of the countryside and conserving wildlife.

Also supporting the programme with a range of activities are the Great Glen Way Rangers; National Trust for Scotland; John Muir Trust; and Forestry Commission Scotland.

Copies of the Ranger Guided Walks & Events booklets are available from Highland Council Service Points and libraries and can be viewed or downloaded from the Council’s website at: /leisureandtourism/what-to-see/rangers/countrysiderangerevents.htm
