New Provost of Inverness appointed

Councillor Jimmy Gray, Provost of InvernessHighland Councillor Jimmy Gray for the Inverness Millburn Ward was today appointed (Monday 4 August 2008) as chairman of The Highland Council’s Inverness City Committee which carries the role of Provost of Inverness.

At today’s meeting of the Inverness City Committee, Councillor Gray was proposed for the role of Provost by Liberal Democrat Councillor Alex Graham for Inverness West and seconded by Independent Councillor Helen Carmichael for Aird and Loch Ness. Provost Gray has been a Labour representative on The Highland Council since June 2000 when he was elected as member to serve Crown, Inverness.

Provost Gray said: “It is a great privilege and pleasure for me to take up the role of the Provost and chairman of the City of Inverness Committee. The immediate issues in Inverness are the works being carried out on the streetscape, flood alleviation, road infrastructure and the UHI developments. On the wider front there is the role that Inverness plays both in the wider Highlands and throughout Scotland. I look forward to the challenges ahead and working with all our partners.”
