Lochaber road conditions update

The Highland Council has assured residents of Lochaber that its entire winter roads workforce has been in use since yesterday evening (Monday 1st Dec) up till 9pm and from 6am this morning (Tuesday 2nd Dec) in accordance with Council policy.

The Council’s TEC Services has been monitoring the weather forecast and did anticipate snow. The Lochaber winter maintence workforce - 28 operatives and 11 gritters - were deployed yesterday evening and are continuing to work in the area clearing roads.

All units have been working since yesterday evening gritting main feeder roads and bus routes and this morning school routes were gritted.

The Council has a winter maintenance policy that it applies with categories of routes being gritted in order of importance. Main feeder roads, bus routes and school routes are higher in priority and are therefore cleared first. The Council is endeavouring to clear other routes as quickly as possible within its available resources.
