Retiral of Senior Highland Education Official

A long-serving education  manager, who served as The Highland Council’s Acting Director of Education Culture and Sport for a spell in 2007, retires today (Friday) after 36 years of service in the Highlands.
 
Donnie MacDonald bows out as The Highland Council’s Head of Education Services.
 
Educated in Lochaber and a graduate of Edinburgh and Glasgow Universities, Mr MacDonald, began his career as a teacher of Mathematics at Kingussie High School  in 1972.  
 
He moved into education advice and support  when he was appointed to the post of adviser in mathematics with Highland Regional Council  in 1983.
 
He joined the education management team in 1993, initially as divisional education officer in Ross and Cromarty, prior to being   appointed Head of Support for Learners in 1999.
 
He was appointed to his current post of Head of Education Services in 2001.
 
In 2007, he undertook for a time the duties of   Acting Director of Education Culture and Sport  pending the appointment of the current director  Hugh Fraser
