Temporary Access Restriction on Crown Road, Inverness

The Highland Council is advising motorists that due to ongoing works being carried out by HQC Ltd to install a bus priority system at Eastgate, Inverness - temporary traffic restrictions will take place from Wednesday (13 February ).

This phase of the scheme involves the re-engineering of traffic islands and signals at the Millburn Road/Crown Road junction to create a short length of bus only lane for buses heading in to the City Centre.

The effect of the notice is to temporarily prohibit westbound traffic on Millburn Road (B865) from entering Crown Road, by closing access to Crown Road to left turning vehicles at its junction with Millburn Road (B865), Inverness between 00:01 hours on Wednesday 13th February and 00:01 hours on Monday 25th February, 2008.

The closure will affect vehicular traffic intending to use Crown Road from Millburn Road towards Academy Street (Westbound). All other traffic movements at the Millburn Road / Crown Road junction will remain unaffected. Pedestrian access and access for emergency vehicles will be maintained at all times.

An alternative route for westbound vehicular traffic will be available using Millburn Road (B865), Victoria Drive, Crown Drive and Crown Road. This route is unsuitable for Heavy Goods Vehicles. HGV’s requiring access to Crown Road should do so via the A82 (T), Chapel Street, Academy Street and Crown Road.

The value of the works is £250,000 funded by The Highland Council, Scottish Government Bus Route Development Grant and HITRANS.  The contractor for the works is HQC with design and site supervision by Highland Council Project Design Unit.
