Blue Peter Team To Visit Glen Nevis Centre

A team from the popular children’s TV show, Blue Peter, will be setting off from the Glen Nevis Visitor Centre on Wednesday (13 February) for the final leg of their attempt to climb the four highest peaks in the British Isles.  Before starting their accent, they will meet centre staff to map out their route.

Opened in 1993, The Glen Nevis Visitor Centre which is run by The Highland Council, is the starting point for people preparing to climb Ben Nevis.  It is visited by over 80,000 people each year.  As well as been the base for the council’s Ranger service, the Centre displays interesting  historical, geological and geographical exhibitions and stocks a wide range of maps and essentials for walking in the outdoors whatever the weather.

Open seven days a week throughout the year, trained staff are on hand to provide local information and advice to anyone wishing to walk in the area, and the Centre boasts the only dedicated weather forecast for the UK’s highest mountain.

Glen Nevis Visitor Centre Manager Jim Milligan was looking forward to the visit of the Blue Peter Team.  He said:  “I am delighted that the Blue Peter team are, like all responsible walkers, making sure they are well-equipped and know their route before setting off to climb Ben Nevis. We encourage anyone who wants to do any hill walking in the area to come and speak to our trained staff before they set out especially as weather conditions can change very quickly so it is worth been fully prepared.  We also can provide information about lots of other excellent local walks that suit all levels of fitness and abilities.”

Opening hours during the winter months are 9am to 3pm and from 8am to 6pm during the summer.  For further information, telephone Jim on 01397 705922.
