A82 Tomnahurich Swing Bridge Re-Waterproofing and Re-Surfacing

Issued by Scotland TranServ

Scotland TranServ will commence works on Monday 18 February on the waterproofing and re-surfacing of the Tomnahurich Swing Bridge, Inverness.  Works will continue until Sunday 30 March.

The works require a single lane closure on the canal swing bridge manually controlled by temporary traffic lights at peak times and by vehicle actuated temporary traffic lights otherwise. Bught Road will be closed during the works. The canal bridge will be restricted to two swings per weekday at noon and at 3.30 pm.

During the weekend of Friday 29th February to Monday 3rd March 2008, the bridge will be completely closed to vehicular traffic for 53 hours, commencing midnight on the Friday night to 5 am on the Monday.

All vehicular traffic will be diverted via General Booth Road, King Brude Road and the A862 Telford Street to the A82 Telford Street Roundabout and return. Pedestrians and dismounted cyclists will be escorted through the site. The bridge will reopen at 5 am on the Monday with a single lane closure thereafter.

The scheme starts at the A82 Trunk Road junction with General Booth Road and extends to Glenurquhart Road to the north of the canal swing bridge, a total length of 1 km.

This £250,000 scheme is part of the commitment by Transport Scotland to maintain and improve the Trunk Road network. The essential works involve renewal of the waterproofing and road surfacing on the canal swing bridge.

Motorists should allow extra time for their journeys and pay attention to location and timings of the works on the A82, immediately south-west of Inverness.
