Highland Schools Truimph At Education "Oscars"

An Invergordon teacher is set to join finalists at the UK teaching awards after winning the prestigious Inspirational Teacher award at this year's Scottish Education Awards ceremony in Glasgow.

Following her Scottish success, Park Primary School teacher Moira Mackenzie is in the running for the BT Award for Teacher of the Year in a Primary School.

First Minster Jack McConnell and Education Minister Peter Peacock presented the awards which highlight the excellent work going on in Scotland's schools.

Kirkhill Primary's Mark Sloggie was also a runner-up for the Education Supporter Award.

Mr Peacock said: "Moira Mackenzie has played an outstanding role in supporting and motivating her pupils and I wish her every success in the UK Teaching Award finals.

"The Scottish Education Awards showcase excellence and innovation in Scotland's schools. I hope all the winners and runners up will go on to achieve even greater success, continuing to aim high and inspiring others to follow.

"Highland school teachers, parents and pupils can be very proud that their hard work is so highly valued.

"I want all schools to be ambitious, excellent schools equipping young people with the confidence and vital skills they need for a successful future and helping them realise their full potential."
