Kate From Lochcarron Is 2000th Participant

The Ross and Cromarty Sports Council Out of School Hours (OSH) project has firmly established itself in Ross-shire and at the weekend Kate Tweats from Lochcarron was presented with a special gift for being the 2000th young person to take part in the various activities run by the project throughout the area..

The OSH Project, which receives funding from the New Opportunities Fund, provides free after school sporting activities for the children of Ross-shire. Project Co-ordinator Howard Tolliday travelled to Lochcarron to present Kate with some badminton equipment to help her continue enjoying the badminton sessions which retired head teacher Catherine Ross coaches at Lochcarron Village Hall.

When presented with the badminton equipment which was donated by Tain Sports Shop, Kate said: "I am really enjoying the badminton sessions and these new rackets will really help me."

Howard Tolliday said: "OSH’s success is due to the committed coaches and volunteers in the local community who want to ensure that the young people of their communities have good role models, a strong focus and a healthy sporting pastime. We all are becoming very aware of the dangers that inactivity and poor diet bring and I am very pleased that so many coaches and volunteers have come forward to address this problem.

"We have started to organise a very exciting summer programme, including cheerleading sessions in Dingwall this August so watch out for details. I would like to start to look at the possibility of working with some hill walking clubs in the near future so that the children could learn orienteering and an appreciation of the Ross-shire’s natural beauty. I would love to hear from anyone with this experience that they might like to share with the children."
