Fort William Waterfront Update

Senior officials of The Highland Council have met with members of the Council’s Administration and Lochaber Members to update them on the progress of the £80million Fort William Waterfront development.  The development will include a new supermarket, offices, new library, new residential developments and car parking.

Members were informed of the current position on negotiations with the preferred bidder, Fort William Waterfront Ltd, where discussions are ongoing with a view to completion of missives.

Members were given a draft timetable prepared by Council officials for community consultation on the project including community input into the proposed design statement for the project which will be prepared and debated prior to the developer submitting a planning application.

It is anticipated that it will take approximately two years to obtain the necessary approvals including planning permission, with a further four to five years to complete the various elements of this complex and ambitious project.

Convener Councillor Sandy Park said: “Members have been assured that progress is being made on this exciting development in Fort William.  A timetable has been drafted by our officials, which sets out a two-year plan of action to take the project to planning approval.

“We will keep members regularly briefed and we should see the preferred bidder consulting with interested local parties in the spring.”
