Eastgate Bus Priority Scheme

The Highland Council  is to commence works to install a bus priority system at Eastgate, Inverness, on Monday (28 January). 

The scheme involves the re-engineering of traffic islands and signals at the Millburn Road/Crown Road junction to create a short length of bus only lane for buses heading in to the city centre. 

The right turn stacking lane for Falcon Gallery car park will also be lengthened to free up the traffic lanes in the approach to this junction.  Complementary to this, the bus bay at the busy Falcon Square bus stop will be increased in length to accommodate two buses.  The benefits of the bus priority scheme will be to improve journey time reliability for buses accessing the city centre which should encourage more people to use public transport and help tackle Inverness’s growing traffic congestion.

The works are programmed to last for five weeks and will involve a necessary amount of single lane working with temporary traffic signals.

Motorists are advised to take alternative routes if at all possible during this period.

The value of the works is £250,000 funded by The Highland Council, Scottish Government Bus Route Development Grant and HITRANS, the strategic transport authority for the Highlands and Islands.  The contractor for the works is HQC with design and site supervision by The Highland Council Project Design Unit.
