Council Welcomes Road to Recovery Campaign

The Highland Council has welcomed the Scottish Government’s “The Road to Recovery – A New Approach to Tackling Scotland’s Drug Problem.”

This new strategy sets out an ambitious plan to support people on a range of levels, not only through medical treatment, but also in terms of providing good social work support and access to skills training to offer opportunities in education, training and employment.

Councillor Margaret Davidson, The Highland Council Chairman of the Housing and Social Work committee said:  “We support this campaign and welcome the emphahsis given to supporting families and working with children and young people..  The focus is on recovery by individuals from the effects of drug abuse with services working together to treat and support drug users. Our Youth Action teams will play a key role in delivering the strategy in the Highlands. People can rightly expect that they will have support that centres on them as a person and not the addiction.”
