Plockton Music Pupils Prepare To Go On Tour

As the current school term draws to an end, it’s time for the students of the National Centre of Excellence in Traditional Music to hit the road for their annual tour.

The Centre in Plockton is the only one in Scotland exclusively devoted to the study of traditional music, with students from all over the country. Aged from 15-18, they play a dynamic blend of the old and the new in Scottish traditional music, on pipes, fiddle, whistle, accordion, clàrsach, guitar, and piano. Scots and Gaelic song are both strongly featured as well.

This year’s tour is centred on Deeside and Strathspey, with shows at the Acorn Centre, Inverurie on Wednesday 18th June, Braemar Village Hall on Thursday 19th, the Badenoch Centre in Kingussie on Friday 20th, and the homecoming gig at Plockton High School on Saturday 21st, all with 7:30 starts.

Centre Director Dougie Pincock said: “These tours cover a different part of Scotland each year, and they are the Centre’s way of getting out and showing people outside of Plockton what we’re about, as well as giving our students a taste of life on the road.”

The students will also be giving workshops and performances in local schools, and the visits to Inverurie Academy, Aboyne Academy and Kingussie High School are sure to be among the highlights of the year for everyone involved.
